Like all other cannabis rigs, there will inevitably come a day when you need to clean your glass dab rig. Cleaning your rig is a surprisingly easy process as long as you are ready to be patient. Fortunately, unlike their bong counterparts, glass dab rigs are known to be a lot cleaner than bongs. While you will still want to clean them, you will find it is less of a battle than traditional cleaning options for a bong since there is less resin to contend with.
While many products will help you clean your dab rig Ziggy’s Smoke Shops recommends the premium glass cleaner Dabuloso, which is formulated with 99% ISO alcohol.
Cleaning The Nail
The nail is one of the most important parts of a dab rig, so you want to make sure it is thoroughly clean. While many people rely on simply “torching the nail” as a method of cleaning, this isn’t always the best option. It might clean the nail and will certainly decontaminate it, it doesn’t always offer that cleaning product clean that a lot of us prefer. If you do use your torch for the cleaning process, it still pays to clean it with a traditional cleaner after.
Pull Apart Your Rig
Different rigs can come apart in different ways. For an effective clean, you will want to focus on separating every component of the dab. This will make them soak better and makes it easier for you to physically clean them as well. Break down the dab rig as much as you can before continuing.
Pre-Soak The Rig
A preemptive soak can help your rig to come out cleaner more quickly. Using alcohol, water, salt, or lemon juice, give your rig a nice hot soak for ten to fifteen minutes before you really get started. When you are done, rinse off the rig with hot water.
Full-Soak The Rig
Now, take your rig and put it back in the soaking container. This time add alcohol and salt to the container and gently shake the pieces to ensure the salt enters the device. Most people prefer to use coarse sea salt for this process.
Now that you have your mixture of salt and alcohol inside the rig, shake the components while locking the cleaners inside. The salt can effectively scrub at the rig and reduce any buildup. After you are done, let the rig soak longer to really allow the cleaners to work.
Rinse and Dry
After you have taken the time to soak the rig, you will want to thoroughly rinse it out. Take your time to ensure that no traces of alcohol or salt are left within each component. Avoid using cold water, as this can make the rinsing process more difficult. When you are done, take the time to lay out all of the components and let them dry.
Cleaning your dab rig might be a bit of a process, but it is well worth the effort. A clean rig can function better, give you a better experience, and will last longer. If you own one, cleaning the rig out should be a part of your regular process.
